Giving $10,000 to Children’s Treatment Centre a ‘hand up in a time of need’

The Children’s Treatment Centre has been given a sizable donation to help with its operations to treat local children suffering from physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Bill and Darlene McGimpsey and The Co-operators Advisor Community Fund presented a combined donation of $10,000 to CTC President Don Fairweather on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020. The community fund helps Co-operators insurance agents in community projects.

“We just felt it’s a hand up in a time of need and I guess paying it forward in a way. There was a time in our life that we struggled and that’s behind us, hopefully, so we wanted to help others,” McGimpsey said.

“I’ve always been a strong supporter of the Children’s Treatment Centre,” he said. “It’s investing into the city’s future, taking care of the kids that are abused.”

McGimpsey says Fairweather was “extremely gracious” for the donation, considering the centre hasn’t had most of its usual fundraising events this year due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s too bad the CTC has to exist but we are lucky to have them. We are a little, small business and we just wanted to do our part,” McGimpsey added. “We just wanted to give back to the community and knew it was the right organization for us to make a donation.”
