Marc Crawford roast raises $36,000 for Children’s Treatment Centre

A goodhearted roast at Marc Crawford’s expense has raised over $36,000 for the Children’s Treatment Centre.

Crawford, a Belleville native with close ties and a history in the city, was the focus of a CTC Dinner and Roast on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017.

Crawford was part of the Cornwall Royals in the early 1980s when they won back-to-back Memorial Cups and also met his future wife, Helene Campeau, here.

Crawford has an extensive coaching career and is most recently an associate coach with the Ottawa Senators.

There were 274 people at the Best Western Parkway Inn for the evening, which saw a number of big names from the hockey world take the podium.

Those included Ottawa Senators head coach Guy Boucher and Calgary Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke.

Boucher joked about Crawford’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality, especially when it comes to referees. “He looks awesome. He talks to the refs you can see they go way back and they’re so polite and that’s when I realize, he’s the most polite vulgar person I’ve ever met.”

Other roasters were TSN senior manager Steve Dryden, Crawford’s children, Dylan and Kaitlin, and Marc’s brother, Bob Crawford.

The night was peppered with several video segments from some of the speakers, including a roasting montage from TSN’s James Duthie, Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger.

But Crawford had the last word and reminded the audience of why they were all there.

“Helping victims of child abuse is a selfless job. It is something that is so necessary. You help fund it and 100 per cent of the funds that they need to run this very needed service are generated by people like you,” Crawford told the audience.
